It is usually a show case for top acrobatics and contortionists and attracts performers from all over the world.
But this year a Chinese festival has sparked controversy by including black bears doing balancing tricks for the audience.
One - its mouth bound by a leather strap - is seen skipping obediently between a rope held by its handlers.

Another gets up on a high wire for the six-minute show while the two bears clamber onto to steel chairs throwing hoops around the necks and then appear to be clapping under orders from their trainers.

The shocking images were seen the 10th Wuhan International Acrobatics Art Festival in the Hubei Province, which runs until the end of the month.
The bears, part of a troupe from the country's Anhui province, do two shows a day alongside 260 performers who represent 19 troupes from overseas and eight from the country.
